這次到花蓮另一個原因是見個二十年的老朋友。這位了不起的朋友是地質博士，做斷層研究。所以對花蓮的地質狀況和斷層移動導致的地震很熟悉。😊😊😊
.
兩人漫步在花蓮市區時，她輕描淡寫的一一帶我看花蓮的地震帶，還經過了以前統帥飯店的地方。
.
二月的地震仍記憶猶新，親眼目睹這已被夷為平地的舊址，簡直難以想像當年聳立多年的高大飯店風光。😞😞😞
.
天災真的好強大。要說可怕也不是，比較像是我們脆弱的人類要跟自然並存，總是要抱著尊敬及接納的態度。在如此獨特地形美麗的花東海岸，地震可說是花蓮人的日常。

讓我想起當年開帆船渡過暴風雨一般。樂觀的人會期待它改變，悲觀的人會拼命靠背，但實際並已接納它的人，則會去調整風帆。在花蓮，接納了大自然的人，是否也接受了地震可能會帶來的災害呢？😢😢😢

大自然正是因為有這些充滿力量的瞬間，才可以讓我們從中真的體會自己的脆弱與渺小。

[Silly Bee around Taiwan railroad trip: Hualien]

Onother reason why I went to Hualien was to visit a friend of 20 years. This amazing friend is has a PhD in geology, and she specializes in earthquake and fault zone. So she understand the geological situation in Hualien. 😊😊😊

We strolled in the Hualien city center, and she showed me around some earthquake zone. We also passed by where the Marshal Hotel used to be.
.
The earthquake last month was still in our memories. This hotel used to be here for decades. Now seeing it disappeared into a parking lot makes me sad.
It is simply unbelievable. 😞😞😞
.
Natural disasters are powerful. It is not really apropriate to describe it as horrible, as it is a reminder for us fragile humans to respect and accept the complexity of mother nature. In this beautiful Hualien coastline with such unique geological phenomenon, earthquakes may be a daily normal for Hualien.

This reminded me of my sailing trip across the storm in Drake's Passage. Optimists would expect it to change, pessimists would complain about the wind, but realists would adjust the sails. In Hualien, those who have accepted
this mother nature, have you also accepted this risks for disasters? 😢😢😢

Precisely because of these powerful moments are we reminded about our fragility and limitations.
